All aerobic classes provided by both base fitness centers and the Health and Wellness Center will be taught by military instructors beginning Oct. 1.

"Our goal is to have a seamless transition," said 1st Lt. Guy Meyer, 100th Services Squadron combat support flight chief.

According to 100th SVS acting fitness director Troy Pardington, due to financial cut-backs, the aerobics contract was not funded and military instructors will be used starting in fiscal 2008.

Active-duty members, ranging from Airman 1st Class to Master Sergeant, and 100th SVS civilians, will become certified to lead cycle classes, circuit training, boxer size classes and yoga. They will also teach an abdominal class and a basic training fitness class to name a few.

Currently the fitness facilities offer 27 classes but after the transition to military instructors there will be 25 classes available. With military instructors comes military commitments and some classes may be rescheduled to work around calendar conflicts. All classes will remain free of charge.

"The main point I would like to emphasize is that this new approach to aerobics instruction may have some lumps and bumps in the change over from a contractor to in-house instruction," said Partington. "It would be most helpful if all our customers could be patient and work with us in making this transition from one to the other."
