More than 200 Team Mildenhall members gathered at Remembrance Park at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in honor of the innocent victims killed in the terrorist attacks Sept. 11, 2001.

Honor Guard at the front, wing leadership and members of Team Mildenhall - military and civilian - gathered together to remember those who died.

Chaplain (Capt.) Jason Peters recounted what he had been doing six years ago to the day when he worked at the Pentagon.

He described how he spent all night there, then the next four days, and of how the entire scene was surrealistic - complete with bright lights like a movie set, fire trucks, ambulances and construction vehicles, along with every kind of federal, state and local agency you could imagine.

"But amidst all of this tragedy, those of us in Washington D.C. knew that the devastation surrounding us was minimal compared to Ground Zero in New York City," he said.

Tech. Sgt. Mervyn Seivwright, 100th Maintenance Squadron, read one of his poems during the ceremony.

At 1:46 p.m. Chaplain Peters made his last comment of the ceremony.

"At precisely this moment, (six years ago) American Airlines Flight 11 was rammed into the World Trade Center."

His comments were followed by a moment of silence to honor all the victims of the attacks that day.
