Both the Northside Fitness Center and Heritage Park will be under restoration this summer.

The Northside Fitness Center has extended its closure dates from mid-July to the end of August. The facility is found to need additional renovations.

The fitness center is currently undergoing heating, ventilation and air conditioning repairs due to last year's major break in the lines, resulting with a portion of the building flooded.

The repairs currently being made will enable the building to sustain operations to the five-to seven-year point.

"The August completion date includes concurrent civil engineer operations work to replace items not in the scope of the HVAC contract," said Gus Kirkikis, 100th Civil Engineer Squadron Deputy Base Civil Engineer. "CE personnel will replace light bulbs in the high areas of the fitness center with specialized lift equipment, after the construction contractor has completed work in those areas."

The time is being extended due to the processes required for the work to be done.

The 100th Force Support Squadron is currently in discussion with the Headquarters Services Activity to implement 24/7 access for the Northside Fitness Center.  Plans are being developed, but won't be ready prior to the end of August move-in date.

An alternate fitness center is located in Building 631 and is available 24/7.

The Heritage Park running track will undergo resurfacing in the beginning of June.

"The contractors will remove the existing synthetic surface layer of the track and prepare the track for its new synthetic surface," added Kirkikis. "The project is expected to be completed by July 2015."

Physical fitness testing will be accomplished at RAF Lakenheath, but personnel need to contact their unit fitness program managers for details.
