The 100th Logistics Readiness Squadron's Distribution Section has moved to Bldg. 582.

The section is responsible for transportation of cargo and personnel in support of daily and contingency operations. This section is also responsible for receipt and shipment of Department of Defense supplies and equipment. It consists of the vehicle operations and cargo movement elements.

These elements are vital to the 100th Air Refueling Wing mission. They move aircrew and parts, without which aircraft wouldn't be able to launch. They offer customer support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

"The reason for the move was to consolidate cargo movement and vehicle operations," said Master Sgt. Travis Laws, 100th LRS distribution section chief from Charleston, West Virginia.

Another reason for the move is clear, improved customer service.

"The move took place to better locate the two elements and better support the 100th ARW requirements," said Steven Randall, 100th LRS distribution manager from Brandon, Suffolk.

Randall oversees the two elements and provides higher level managerial information, guidance, training and mentorship.

"Now that we are under one roof, we can streamline the process," Laws said. "Having leadership and other personnel under one roof is going to help improve the communication up and down the chain."

Laws handles the administrative side of the section. He takes care of any issues with the civilian and military workforce, including performance reports and disciplinary type actions. He will be better equipped to deal with any issues now that the teams are under one roof.

Randall is also pleased with the centralization of the section and the opportunity it will give him to make better use of his team.

"The benefits of moving to this building are the oversight I am able to have of the operation as a whole and the extra internal space for our assets and personnel," the distribution manager explained.

The move to a newly renovated building also provides a fresh environment for the service members and civilians working in it.

"This is a nice facility," Laws added. "You can tell the 100th Civil Engineer Squadron and the contractors have put a lot of hard work and thought into it, and I think this is going to be a great place for us."

As with any change, problems are to be expected. So far, few have come to light, but there are plans in place to deal with them.

"Our squadron leadership is working hard to solve current and future issues," Randall said.
