With elections right around the corner, Team Mildenhall will be preparing its voters by hosting an Absentee Voters' Week Sept. 29 to Oct. 2, 2014 on RAF Mildenhall, England.

Information booths will be set up throughout the base to emphasize and encourage voters to register and request absentee ballots if they have not yet done so, and to encourage those who already have registered and received their ballots to complete their absentee ballots and return them to their local election officials.

"Living overseas, it can be difficult to keep up with your home state's special and primary elections," said Capt. Travis Epp, 100th Air Refueling Wing programs chief and Installation Voting Assistance Officer from Roseburg, Oregon. "That's what the voting office is for, increasing awareness and providing services for those members needing assistance with getting registered to vote."

Epp mentioned Department of Defense officials have taken steps to make absentee voting easier for service members, their families, and federal employees working overseas.

"The voting assistance page linked to the RAF Mildenhall homepage has lots of great information as well as links to Federal Voting Assistance Program where you can register to vote and take care of any other voting related needs," said Epp.

What used to be a complicated process of having to check the Voting Assistance Guide for state-specific requirements and deadlines for absentee voting has now become automated.

Information booths will be set up at the following times and locations:

Sept. 29
3 to 5 p.m. at the Hardstand Fitness Center

Sept. 30
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Exchange on RAF Mildenhall
3 to 5 p.m. at the Northside Fitness Center

Oct. 1
6 to 8 a.m. at the Hardstand Fitness Center

Oct. 2,
6 to 8 a.m. at the Northside Fitness Center and the Exchange food court

"Voting is the most important right of any U.S. citizen," said Epp. "During any election, every eligible individual has the opportunity to exercise a single vote. It's this vote which serves as the foundation for our country's democracy, and what we as the military fight to support and defend. As Airmen, it is our duty to exercise this right and vote."
