Why is serving in the Air Force important to you?
It's been part of my life since I was born; my dad was in the Air Force for more than 25 years and just recently retired. The Air Force is what I've always known. I came in to do my part and to serve my country and family. I come to work every day hoping that what I do today impacts someone positively and has a positive mission impact -- that's why I'm here and that's what I am always trying accomplish.

What accomplishment during your Air Force career are you most proud of?
I would have to say I am most proud of the work I did downrange in Afghanistan. I was with a small unit and some of the things I did had a direct impact on the mission, and I was there to see it first-hand. It really reinforced and relit my drive for what I do.

What are your personal and/or professional goals?
My personal goal is just to be the best husband and person I can each day, and try to affect someone positively. My professional goals are to make it to the next rank and further my career, be the best trainer and mentor I can be, to lead by example and do my personal best at the job each day.

What is your favorite part of your job?
First, when you completely tear a truck down to bare bones, tear the motor down, rebuild it and build the whole truck back up. That first time you turn the key, it cranks up and runs perfect. There's no better feeling; the job gratification is amazing. Second is from the training side, I love teaching. It's an awesome feeling when I teach someone something that to me is easy, but for them is unknown and nerve-racking to an extent. But then you see them grasp it, their eyes light up, and they finish the job and learned something new. That look of pride and accomplishment on their face makes everything that day worth it; all I had to do was share and instill my knowledge and skills.

How does the individual portray that core value?
"Senior Airman Steven Martin always does the job to the full extent and strives to make a positive impact on the mission," said Staff Sgt. Romon Estelle, 100th Logistics Readiness Squadron NCO in charge of material controls from Long Beach, Calif. "It's a policy that extends from his work life into his personal life, and no matter what, he is always willing to help those in need."
