Independence Day celebrations scheduled at RAF Feltwell Published June 12, 2014 By Staff Reports 100th Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs RAF MILDENHALL, England -- The annual RAF Feltwell Independence Day celebrations are once again scheduled, and the event will be open to the general public July 4. Cancelled last year because of sequestration and budget cuts, this year's event brings a flying display by the Red Arrows, a Mustang and Spitfire, along with a parachute display and many other attractions. Attractions will include carnival rides, a car and bike show, pie contest and other family contests. The schedule is as follows: Noon to 7 p.m. - Car and bike show Noon to 7 p.m. - Youth area Noon to midnight - Carnival rides 1 to 2 p.m. - Family contests, melon eating and sack races 2 p.m. - Falcons parachute display 3 to 4 p.m. - Pie contest 4 to 7 p.m. - Community demonstrations 5 p.m. - Mustang and Spitfire flying display 6:30 p.m. - Red Arrows air display 7 to 10 p.m. - Local bands 10 p.m. - Fireworks Entry is free, though there are charges for carnival rides and some other events. Those attending may bring their own food, however liquids will not be allowed except for baby formula and medication. A variety of food and drinks will be available for purchase at the event. Parking is available on base in designated areas, but car pooling is advised. Base ID cardholders can take a free shuttle bus from the Bob Hope Community Center on RAF Mildenhall to RAF Feltwell, which will run at regular intervals throughout the day, from 3:30 p.m. July 3 and 10 a.m. July 4. The last bus will depart RAF Feltwell to return to RAF Mildenhall at 8 p.m. July 3 and 1 a.m. July 5. Pets are not allowed at the event. Anyone bringing animals will be turned away. The Independence Day preview event will be open July 3 for base ID cardholders only, from 4 to 8 p.m. All carnival rides will cost £1 and ID cardholders may bring food and drink with them. As a reminder, drinks and other liquids will not be permitted July 4. Be aware that all bags will be searched. The following items are not authorized on RAF Feltwell: · All liquids, except for baby formula and medication (July 4 only) · Coolers · Duffle bags and other large hand-carried items · Weapons (knives, firearms, objects that fire a projectile that can potentially injure someone and blunt force objects) · Drugs and drug paraphernalia · Potential explosive material · Protest paraphernalia (banners, spray paint, locks, chains, handcuffs, fence-cutting tools and bullhorns) This is not an all-inclusive list.
