RAF Mildenhall hosts Earth Week events Published April 16, 2014 By Staff Reports 100th Air Refueling Public Affairs RAF Mildenhall, England -- Earth Week is April 21 to 25, 2014, and to celebrate RAF Mildenhall is working with agencies on and off base for different events. "The events of Earth Week are intended to raise awareness for base personnel and their families of things they can do to help the Air Force meet its recycling, water conservation and energy goals," said Jeanne Dye-Porto, 100th Civil Engineer Squadron Environmental element chief. The week kicks off with a bat-spotting and educational walk April 21. The event begins at 7:45 p.m. from the parking lot near Sainbury's in Mildenhall. The route of the walk is along the River Lark and serves as an opportunity to take in the sights and sounds of nature with others. The event begins at the parking lot near Sainbury's in Mildenhall and takes place along the River Lark. Also scheduled for April 22 at 1 p.m. is a historic building tour of RAF Mildenhall starting in the 100th Air Refueling Wing headquarters, Bldg. 239, wing conference room. Participants will learn about the history of RAF Mildenhall through a guided walking tour. On April 23, a Chiefs vs. Eagles competition is scheduled and will begin at the Galaxy Club at 3:30 p.m. The competition will continue at the fire access road near Bldg. 215 at 4 p.m., and will end at the youth center at 4:30 p.m. Also scheduled for April 23 is a recycling show at the youth center beginning at 4 p.m. This show is a re-use and recycle workshop. Families are invited to attend. On April 24, Forest Heath will sponsor a recycling booth at 10 a.m. at the Bob Hope Community Center. During the event, people can learn proper recycling procedures for off-base recycling and which items to recycle in the local community. The final event is scheduled for April 25 with a 5 km fun run starting at the Hardstand Fitness Center at 3:30 p.m. "Every little thing each person does adds up to conserve resources, improve the environment and make our programs successful," Dye-Porto said.
