April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

To begin the base's SAAM campaign, Team Mildenhall victim advocates and members of the base's Sexual Assault Prevention and Response office gathered with Col. Kenneth T. Bibb Jr., 100th Air Refueling Wing commander, March 28, 2014, for a ceremonial tree planting. During this gathering, the attendees reaffirmed their pledge to aid sexual assault survivors.

Throughout April, the SAPR office is planning to hold a number of events that will highlight awareness of this issue as well as offer advice and tools on how to Step Up, Step In.

One of these events includes a traveling banner, which will make its way around base for people to sign. Their signatures will serve as a visual commitment to stamp out sexual assault and send a message to sexual predators that their actions will not be tolerated.

Informational tables will also be on display in various locations and days throughout the month for anyone interested in learning more about sexual assault prevention and response.

RAF Mildenhall's SAPR down day is scheduled for April 18. The base will stand down its normal operations this day in order to train, which will include having discussions on topics varying from how to identify a potential offender to how to respond if a person tells you he/she is a victim of sexual assault.
