ITAM enables RAF Mildenhall mission

RAF MILDENHALL, England --  In today's military, almost every mission depends on information technology at some point or another. Whether it's through annual training Airmen receive or the phones they use to communicate with one another, technology plays a part in their daily routine.

"Where would any office be without IT assets -- your desktop computer, phones, printers, etc?" said Tech. Sgt. Cory Favors, 100th Communications Squadron Information Technology Asset Management NCO in charge from Montgomery, Ala. "It would be nearly impossible for any of us to execute our mission without any of them."

The 100th CS ITAM office is responsible for the receipt and dispatch of all the mission-enabling information technology assets on the installation, their physical and technical repairs, reutilization or disposal of non-operational equipment and managing software at the base level.

Without the 100th CS ITAM office, Team Mildenhall Airmen wouldn't be able to perform their daily duties.

"We're in charge of and manage the life cycle of (IT) assets and train equipment custodians," said Staff Sgt. Brittney Carter, 100th CS ITAM technician from Corsicana, Texas. "My favorite part is training the Information Technology Equipment Custodians -- teaching them about the program and how to better manage their assets."

Over the course of the past few months, the office has revitalized more than 60 negligent ITEC accounts from 7 to 91 percent compliance. Favors said the process included identifying primary and alternate ITEC points of contact, providing training for those individuals and updating their account inventories.

"There is a standing wing initiative over these accounts, and although we have made tremendous strides toward the overall objective of 100 percent compliance, we're not there yet," Favors said. "But we're determined to drive toward the ultimate goal."

Strategic vision for the office has shifted primarily to program compliance and led the office to become heavily cooperative with the units it represents. To reach their vision, Favors said 100th CS Airmen streamlined their customer service by developing an innovative website portal for ITAM and software management accounts, ensuring customers receive the best service as quickly as possible.

"In many cases, customers don't even have to visit our office for many aspects of their duties; it can all be done electronically," Favors said. "For example, all of our account folders are online for unit access, 24/7."

Through the hard work and dedication of Airmen in the 100th CS ITAM office, their physical and technical repairs of IT assets, reutilization or disposal of non-operational equipment and managing software at the base level, every unit on RAF Mildenhall can use printers, phones and computers to accomplish their mission.
