The parking lot near dormitory 224 on RAF Mildenhall, England, recently underwent demolition, making way for a green space and fire lane.

The demolition was part of a plan to provide a better space for Airmen in the dormitories and enhance security, to provide a larger, safer area for parking, a new parking lot was built across the street, near the base perimeter. The new parking lot also offers a closer place for parents to park when picking up their children.

"The project was in line with the plan to create a walking campus, and puts the cars on the perimeter of the installation," said Tony Lawrence, 100th Civil Engineer Squadron project manager from Saham Toney, Norfolk, England.

Along with the enhanced security, Airmen living in the dormitories will gain a grassy space for barbeques and sports, adding a green space and making the base more eco-friendly.
