Airman 1st Class Matt Fitch, 100th Logistics Readiness Squadron Petroleum, Oils, and Lubricants apprentice, takes a sample of liquid oxygen “LOX” to test for serviceability March 26, 2009, at RAF Mildenhall, England. The Amarillo, Texas, native wears protective clothing to cover all exposed areas from the -297 degrees Fahrenheit boiling temperature of LOX. Liquid oxygen is pure oxygen in a liquid form and has an expansion ratio of 860:1. This offers aviators and aircrew a longer duration of breathable oxygen without the size and weight of conventional methods. (U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt. Jerry Fleshman)
