New security barriers save time, money, environment
One of the new “green” vehicle access control barriers raises near the Gateway Inn, stopping the flow of traffic May 7, 2013, on RAF Mildenhall, England. Being solar- and wind-powered means the new barriers save money as they do not incur the running costs of other barriers. They are operated by a key-fob and raise in-place immediately; whereas using the old, plastic water barriers took more than 2,000 man-hours to put in-place. Additionally, each water barrier required 220 gallons of water, which was not reusable and had to be discarded. (U.S. Air Force photo by Karen Abeyasekere/Released)
