100th CS spouse donates bone marrow, blood stem cells
An apheresis machine is used during a bone marrow and blood stem cell donation Feb. 19, 2013, at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. Tammy Bender, a 100th Communications Squadron spouse, underwent procedures at the hospital from Feb. 15 to 19 before the final stage of the donation, which involved sticking a large needle in her arm and being hooked up to the machine (pictured), which took blood from one arm, separated the plasma and bone marrow, then returned the blood to the other arm.
