Construction for runway extension underway

A cross-section of the taxiway extension under construction Oct. 5, 2012 at RAF Mildenhall, England. The new runway extension, built of pavement-quality concrete, will be 380 millimeters thick. Underneath is cementicious-bound material which is a supporting layer for the concrete and is sprayed with a bitumous layer for protection.
