Taking care of cargo, taking care of business
RAF MILDENHALL, England – Air-freight handlers from the 727th Air Mobility Squadron bring cargo on a “K-loader” to transfer onto a commercial aircraft here May 31, 2012. Cargo is brought in on a weekly basis, and consists of high priority items such as aircraft parts and mail, as well as some household goods. The 727th AMS handles 5,000 tons of cargo annually, and saw 12,000 passengers in 2011. Cargo comes in from all around the world, and all of it – whether arriving by sea or air – first has to go through the Army Surface Deployment Distribution Center – before being processed through RAF Mildenhall.
