Passion, dedication, responsibility: Racing legend tells how military, motor racing share mindset
RAF MILDENHALL, England – Mario Andretti, former world champion Formula 1 and IndyCar racer, takes a Team Mildenhall member for a quick spin around the flightline here Jan. 21, 2011. Mr. Andretti joined several other drivers, past and present, on the Indy 500 Centennial Tour. The 10-day tour was to increase the morale of military troops around the world, and the drivers – Andretti, Al Unser Jr., Johnny Rutherford, Davey Hamilton, Larry Foyt and Martin Plowman, along with racing announcer Jack Arute and IZOD IndyCar Series spokesmodel Cameron Haven – visited more than 10,000 troops at military bases around the world.
