Italian Army Lt. Andrea Gilli, 6th Company platoon commander, utilizes his communication headset to order his soldiers into a defensive posture near Combat Outpost Victor, Badghis province, Afghanistan, Dec. 8. Just as the joint Italian-Afghan National Army convoy passed the bubble’s perimeter, they struck an improvised explosive device.
