Half-staff flags honor those who lost their lives
RAF MILDENHALL, England -- Flags were at half-staff Dec. 7, 2010, to remember veterans who fought and lost their lives at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The attack on Pearl Harbor was a surprise military strike conducted by the Imperial Japanese Navy against the U.S. naval base on the morning of Dec. 7, 1941. The next day, the United States declared war on Japan. The attack was a major engagement of World War II, and thousands of lives were lost. (U.S. Air Force photo/Karen Abeyasekere)
