Stratotanker fleet awaits deicing
RAF MILDENHALL, England -- One of RAF Mildenhall's KC-135 Stratotankers sits sprinkled in snow, waiting to be deiced, Dec. 3, 2010. Because of the current winter conditions, personnel from the 100th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron have to deice aircraft before takeoff to ensure they launch and land safely. Engine covers must be fitted before the plane can be deiced, so chemicals don't get into the engine, as it can cause serious damage. (U.S. Air Force photo/Karen Abeyasekere)
