Celebrating, sharing tales of aviation days gone by

RAF MILDENHALL, England -- Peter George, a former Air Transport Auxilliary first officer and pilot, enjoys a chuckle as he shares his experiences of being a pilot in World War II. He was one of two World War II veterans speaking at an event Oct. 13. The other was Eleanor Wadsworth, a female pilot in the ATA between June 1, 1943, and Sept. 30, 1945. She flew 22 different types of aircraft, including Spitfires and Hurricanes. Mr. George served in the ATA between May 7, 1941, and Nov. 30, 1945, and flew more than 70 different types of aircraft, including Lancaster bombers into RAF Mildenhall. The two former pilots shared their flying experiences with female pilots from the 351st Air Refueling Squadron and other RAF Mildenhall members who met to celebrate the history of Women in Aviation.
