Karen A. picks up the gauntlet
Though it may look like like a strange contraption, the KC-135 simulator is a very expensive training aid which allows pilots to practice a lot of different scenarios, including emergency situations, which would be difficult - sometimes impossible - to do in an actual airplane. The two main benefits of the simulator are that it saves the Air Force a lot of money by using it rather than an actual jet, as well as the realism it provides. It is also used by Turkish pilots to help with their training. (U.S. Air Force photo/Staff Sgt. Jerry Fleshman)
