Warrior stories: Senior Airman Andrew Blasiman
Army Staff Sgt. Dan Thompson, Wisconsin Army National Guard, was one of two close friends of Senior Airman Andrew Blasiman, 100th Communication Squadron, killed in an improvised explosive device attack on Kandahar City, March 2009, three weeks to the day from when Airman Blasiman left his deployment and arrived home at RAF Mildenhall. Army Staff Sgt. Skylar Patch, Illinois Army National Guard, was also killed in the same attack. Airman Blasiman said he was devastated at the news, which he read about in the Stars and Stripes newspaper. "I broke down in tears, and was absolutely crushed. You just never think you're going to read a name in the paper that you know -- I was just talking to them three weeks earlier. Reading that was probably one of the worst days of my life," he said.
