KC-135 helps firefighters keep up-to-date with training

Both Ministry of Defence and U.S. Air Force firefighters from the 100th Civil Engineer Squadron Fire Department participated in the exercise. The scenario was a simulated fire on an aircraft engine, with two crew members unaccounted for. Fire crew had to enter the plane via a door above the wing, and search the aircraft for "personnel". Hands-on training and familiarization techniques are practiced quarterly by the fire department. Hands-on training keeps personnel familiar with the interior layout of the aircraft's proper shutdown procedures, and helps the firefighters think about the different types of problems they could encounter with this type of emergency.
