Black Letter Initial

RAF Mildenhall, U.K. - Staff Sgt. Brandon Becker, 100th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, inspects a KC-135R Stratotanker, ensuring the plane's brakes, suspension and tires are squared away before sending it on a black-letter initial flight. Black letters, as crew chiefs call them, occur when a plane flies a mission with zero write ups and is a testament to the skill and tenacity of the aircraft's crew chiefs.
