Lifeline to refuelers: 100th LRS proves NKAWTG

Airman 1st Class Quentin Olson, 100th Logistics Readiness Squadron fuels apprentice from Canton, S.D., controls the amount of fuel pumped onto a transient KC-135 Stratotanker and watches to ensure there are no problems June 25, 2013, on RAF Mildenhall, England. Two methods of refueling are used to transfer fuel from storage tanks to aircraft – by an R-11 truck and using a pantograph. Both transient aircraft and those belonging to RAF Mildenhall (which will then refuel other U.S. Air Force and NATO aircraft) can receive fuel using either method, which can take, on average, between 25 minutes and three hours, depending on the size of the aircraft and the refueling method.
