Water survival training provides life-saving skills for aircrew

U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Jonathon Schmitz, left, 100th Operations Support Squadron Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape specialist and NCO in charge of SERE operations from Minneapolis, gives aircrew instructions on 20-man survival-raft techniques and living considerations during water survival training March 20, 2014, at Lowestoft College in Norfolk, England. According to Schmitz, hands-on refresher WST involves physically familiarizing individuals with operational use of equipment in less-than-ideal conditions, to give aircrew the confidence and experience to use their equipment as well as to assist others to survive in isolating circumstances.
