Firefighters hone life-saving skills

Defence Fire Service Firefighters Malcolm Strickland, left, from Ramsgate, Kent, and Steve Scales, from Broadstairs, Kent, both 100th Civil Engineer Squadron Fire Department firefighters, use a handline to practice extinguishing a fire March 18, 2014, in the structural trainer on RAF Mildenhall, England. RAF Mildenhall's firefighters are required to train on two structural and two aircraft live-fire burns per year, enabling them to learn and practice proper firefighting techniques. It also allows them recognize firsthand the importance of their personal protective equipment within a live-fire environment, as well as requirements to keep them as safe as possible while on scene. Using the structural trainer ensures using proper extinguishing techniques to prevent flashovers becomes second nature. (U.S. Air Force photo by Karen Abeyasekere/Released)
