BRITS BITS: Exploring Ely
The Ely Cathedral dates back to the Saxon Times and still stands today Feb. 26, 2014, in Ely, England. The founder was St. Etheldreda, from the Saxon Times, and she was the daughter of the king of East Anglia. She restored the church of Ely and built her monastery on the site of Ely Cathedral. After 200 years the Danes destroyed it and then re-founded it as a Benedictine community in 970 A.D. (U.S. Air Force photo by Gina Randall/Released)
