‘Eagle eyes’ owl, falcons swoop in to keep metal ‘birds’ airborne
Keith Mutton, owner of Phoenix Bird Control, from Sedge Fen near Brandon, Suffolk, holds Lancaster, a Harris hawk, on his leather-gloved hand July 19, 2013, on RAF Mildenhall, England. Phoenix Bird Control patrols the runways of RAF Mildenhall, RAF Lakenheath and RAF Fairford, and Mutton has worked bird control on the bases for almost 40 years. He has been a falconer for more than 46 years. In addition to the Harris hawk, he owns other hawks, a variety of falcons and Eagle owls, most of which he hand-rears from the egg.
