‘Eagle eyes’ owl, falcons swoop in to keep metal ‘birds’ airborne
Twinkle, an Eagle owl, watches out for unwanted visitors as she waits patiently for her owner, Keith Mutton, known as “the bird man” July 19, 2013, on RAF Mildenhall, England. Mutton owns Phoenix Bird Control, a company contracted to run the bird aircraft strike hazard program, alongside the 100th Air Refueling Wing Safety office here, at RAF Lakenheath and at RAF Fairford. As part of the BASH program, Harris hawks, Peregrine and Lanner falcons are also used to keep away flocks of birds on the flightline. (U.S. Air Force photo by Airman 1st Class Preston D.
