100th LRS celebrates its civilians

U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Daniel Caldas, 100th Security Forces Squadron Military Working Dog handler from Boston, Mass., rewards MWD Tomi following a demonstration during a Civilian Appreciation Day tour Feb. 27, 2015, on RAF Mildenhall, England. There is a strong bond between MWD and handler and both parties go through extensive training to ensure they are suitable for their job. The welfare of the dog is paramount and during demonstrations the simulated “perpetrator” must move their arm so the dog doesn’t use his whole weight to impact the arm with his jaw, resulting in neck and hip injuries for the dog over time.
