Nip, tuck tanker-style: Thereby hangs a tail

A KC-135 Stratotanker, bearing the markings of McConnell Air Force Base, undergoes an isochronal inspection as U.S. Air Force Airmen from the 100th Maintenance Squadron and 100th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron work together to perform a “fin fold” tail removal Sept. 11, 2015, on RAF Mildenhall, England. The tail was removed after the aircraft was found to have a cracked rudder during a wash before the iso inspection. (U.S. Air Force photo by Karen Abeyasekere/Released)
