Nip, tuck tanker-style: Thereby hangs a tail
The tail of a KC-135 Stratotanker lays at 90 degrees during an isochronal inspection Sept. 11, 2015, on RAF Mildenhall, England. The aircraft part was awaiting the final bolts to be taken off before being completely removed in order to repair a cracked rudder. The jet, formerly from McConnell Air Force Base, has been reassigned to RAF Mildenhall and underwent a full isochronal inspection, with the addition of the tail removal. It will soon be repainted and given the Square D markings. (U.S. Air Force photo by Karen Abeyasekere/Released)
