Nip, tuck tanker-style: Thereby hangs a tail

U.S. Air Force Airmen from the 100th Maintenance Squadron and 100th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron work together to perform a “fin fold” tail removal of a KC-135 Stratotanker Sept. 11, 2015, on RAF Mildenhall, England. The jet, formerly from McConnell Air Force Base, has been reassigned to RAF Mildenhall and underwent a full isochronal inspection, with the addition of the tail removal. It will soon be repainted and given the Square D markings. (U.S. Air Force photo by Karen Abeyasekere/Released)
