100th Bomb Group veterans visit RAF Mildenhall, former World War II bases

Ron Batley, left, 100th Bomb Group Memorial Museum curator, presents a gift to U.S. Air Force Col. Thomas Torkelson, 100th Air Refueling Wing commander, during the 100th BG Heritage Trail event May 10, 2017, at Thorpe Abbots, England. The gift was a piece of asphalt from the original runway at Thorpe Abbots, fixed to a board which was part of an old Nissen hut once on the home of the 100th BG. Veterans of the 100th BG and their families, along with Team Mildenhall members, spent the day visiting former East Anglian bases in Horham, Parham, and Thorpe Abbots. The 100th BGF members also visited RAF Mildenhall, Madingley American Cemetary and Duxford War Museum during their trip to celebrate the 100th BG’s 75th anniversary.
