Maintainers, aircrew test in-ear headset during CBRN exercise
U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Brendan Smith, 351st Air Refueling Squadron boom operator, conducts preflight checks in the cockpit of a KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft during a chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear exercise at Royal Air Force Mildenhall, England, Oct. 28, 2020. Smith and two pilots practiced wearing aircrew eye and respiratory protection equipment while on board the aircraft. The aircrew and crew chiefs were also testing an innovative headset, which uses the bones in the user’s ear to transmit sound waves, to test its capabilities while being worn with AERP equipment and mission-oriented protective posture gear.
