KC-135, tail 7999 – aka ‘Wolff Pack’ – retires from RAF Mildenhall after 59 years dedicated service
U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Jeffrey Gehrke, 100th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron production superintendent, removes the cover of aircraft 7999’s “retirement pin” during its retirement ceremony Nov. 23, 2022, at Royal Air Force Mildenhall, England. This was the first official retirement of a KC-135 at RAF Mildenhall. The 59-year-old tanker, which bears the World War II legacy nose art “Wolff Pack,” has taken its last flight and is now at its final resting place in “The Bone Yard” at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona, but the legacy “Wolff Pack” nose art will remain at RAF Mildenhall and be transferred to another aircraft.
