U.S. Army Air Corps 1st Lt. Charlie Wilson, left, and 1st Lt. Billy Bittle, both 350th Bomb Squadron B-17 Flying Fortress pilots, pose for a photo with a B-17 assigned to the 100th Bomb Group at Thorpe Abbotts, Norfolk, England, in 1943. Wilson began his flying career with the Royal Canadian Air Force as a sergeant-pilot before transferring over to the USAAC and gaining his commission.
