A volunteer cleans aircraft parts found at a crash site in Essex, England, Sept. 23, 2025. In January 1944, U.S. Army Air Forces 2nd. Lt. Lester Lowry was flying a P-47 Thunderbolt out of RAF Bodney, Norfolk, on a training flight over Essex, when he was involved in an accident as the aircraft dove vertically at speed and crashed into a field.
