RAF MILDENHALL REOPENS MAIN GATE

Release Number: 020307

The Main Gate at RAF Mildenhall and the A1101 road have reopened after a closure today due to a suspicious package found on a vehicle.

The package was determined to be of no danger or threat after being investigated by the 48th Explosive Ordnance Disposal team from RAF Lakenheath and a British Explosive Ordnance Disposal team. According to procedures, the 100th Security Forces Squadron team along with the Ministry Guard Service initiated enhanced security measures upon discovering the suspicious package on a vehicle at the base's Main Gate search barn.

The vehicle was attempting to gain entrance onto the installation and was subjected to a routine search. Security personnel discovered what appeared to be a suspicious package and initiated enhanced security measures which included closing the A1101 from the St John's Gate to the roundabout which leads to RAF Lakenheath or Mildenhall town.

All security measures were in place to ensure the safety of individuals until officials could complete their investigation.
