Operational Readiness Exercise Scheduled for Oct. 3-5 Published Sept. 30, 2011 By 110906 RAF MILDENHALL, England -- An exercise designed to test RAF Mildenhall's ability to activate operations on short notice and operate in an expeditionary setting will be conducted here Oct. 3 through 5. Most of the activity on Oct. 3 through 4 will be unnoticed by those not participating, however on Oct. 5, Airmen and agencies from across the base will be participating in alert responses to simulated enemy attacks. People in the surrounding communities may hear loud bangs or see smoke and fire at the base fire department's aircraft-fire training area - all of which are a scheduled part of the exercise and should not raise alarm with local residents. The planned scenarios should last from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and should not impact the local area. Exercise events like this are conducted twice a year and allow the base to ensure they are fully prepared for crisis situations. An exercise evaluation team monitors the quality of Self Aid and Buddy Care response, base fire and rescue response, chemical warfare response, and the effectiveness of command, control and communication throughout the base.
