Team Mildenhall members can help save lives by donating a pint of blood Feb. 8 when a team from Landstuhl, Germany, is scheduled to conduct the Armed Services Blood Program blood drive.

The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Northside Fitness Center, and eligible service members, family members, retirees and Department of Defense civilians are encouraged to donate. All blood collected stays within the military community and is used for service members both in peacetime and wartime situations.

Guidelines for blood donation state donors must be a minimum of 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, and must not have a cold or other illness. Donors will be screened by trained representatives. Further specific restrictions which may prevent people from donating can be found on the ASPB website.

Having a constant supply of blood is vital in both replacing contingency supplies and meeting the peacetime needs of the military health system.

To schedule an appointment, visit www.militarydonor.com and click on “Donate blood,” then “Landstuhl, Germany” and go to “Mildenhall North Side Fitness Ctr, RAF Mildenhall.” For more information, call DSN 590-5885 or commercial at 06371-946-45885. Walk-ins are also welcome.

Additionally, a blood drive is scheduled at RAF Lakenheath Sports and Fitness Center Feb. 7, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
