The Fuels Management Flights from RAFs Mildenhall and Lakenheath came together for their 12th Annual Petroleum, Oils and Lubricant flag football game Nov. 20. The Airmen from RAF Mildenhall were looking to regain the Fens Cup trophy that RAF Lakenheath won the previous year and bragging rights for 2011.

The Fens Cup challenge was started in 1994 as a way to bring camaraderie and competition between the local POL families. Throughout the years, the two flights have competed with each other through different sports, but the number one sport has remained flag football.

The competition got the name Fens from the surrounding area. Deriving from the word Fenlands, Fens are the naturally marshy region in Eastern England.

On the muddy playing field, down 6-0 in the final few minutes, Mildenhall intercepted a pass for a thrilling touchdown that tied the game and caused overtime. In overtime, Lakenheath managed to score the final touchdown, allowing them to hold on to the Fens trophy for another year.

Both flights showed great sportsmanship, and the game enabled Airmen from the different bases to get to know each other further.

For the Mildenhall Fuels Flight, there's always next year.
