The RAF Mildenhall Post Office has recently established a new system called "A2B" which tracks boxed mail.

The new process will allow the post office staff to track the exact time someone's mail was received at the post office and delivered to the recipient. The A2B system consists of printed bar codes, which are placed on shipped boxes that are then placed on shelves inside the post office.

The bar codes are then processed into a handheld tracking pad.

Once information for a package is input into the handheld tracking pad, it's transferred into the A2B system database, which prints out slips to be put in the corresponding mail boxes.

"The system was started May 24, but is not yet running at 100 percent - that isn't projected until mid-July," said Staff Sgt. Marcus Millen, the parcel service center noncommissioned officer in charge. "(Once the system is at 100 percent), the system will deliver an e-mail to individuals who haven't picked up their packages after five to 10 days."

Sergeant Millen said the new system will enhance the way the post office staff tracks mail, and should decrease the chances of mail being lost.
