A senior airman assigned to the 100th Maintenance Squadron here who was killed in a traffic accident Oct. 6 has been identified as 24-year-old Julious Hawkins.

The Airman was traveling west in the eastbound lane between the Bury St. Edmunds central and west exits before colliding with a lorry. The Airman was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident is pending further investigation by the Suffolk Constabulary.

"Anytime we lose a valued member of Team Mildenhall, it affects each and every one of us," said Col. Michael S. Stough, 100th Air Refueling Wing commander.
"This incident is a tragic reminder of just how fragile life is, and how in a moment's notice we can lose someone close to us. Our deepest sympathies go out to the friends and loved ones of Senior Airman Julious Hawkins."

Originally from Stockbridge, Ga., Airman Hawkins arrived here in 2004 from Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla., and joined the Air Force in 2002. While assigned to the base, Airman Hawkins worked as an aircraft sheet metal technician.

"Not only was Senior Airman Julious Hawkins a valued member of the maintenance squadron, but his efforts and dedication to duty directly contributed to the success of our wing and the Air Force," said Maj. John Franklin, 100th Maintenance Squadron commander. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family."

In an unrelated accident, three Airmen from RAF Lakenheath were critically injured and another was seriously injured after the driver hit a tree on Undley Road just outside Lakenheath village Saturday night.

Three of the Airmen are assigned to the 56th Rescue Squadron; the fourth is assigned to the 48th Logistics Readiness Squadron.
