Lavenham – Stepping back in time with crooked houses, cream teas

St. Peter and St. Paul's Church in Lavenham, Suffolk, is a Grade I listed church and is one of the best-known in the county. Local merchants, who made their fortunes in the wool industy, built the church. The major benefactors of the church were John de Vere, the 13th Earl of Oxford and a lord of Lavenham manor, and three generations of local merchants named Thomas Spring. The long nave of seven bays is more than 150 feet long and 70 feet wide, and is lit by perpendicular windows. (U.S. Air Force photo by Karen Abeyasekere/Released)
