U.S. Air Force Gen. Jeff Harrigian, United States Air Forces in Europe - Air Forces Africa commander, met with Team Mildenhall Airmen as part of his visit to RAF Mildenhall, England, July 15, 2019.

Harrigian spoke to Airmen about the importance and uniqueness of the only permanent air refueling mission in Europe and Africa, and highlighted his vision since assuming command in May.

“There wasn’t one Bloody Hundredth Airmen I met who wasn’t excited about the mission set at RAF Mildenhall,” Harrigian said. “Being the premier air refueling mission in this part of the world instills a sense of pride and motivation to get the job done every day, and that’s why I’ll do everything in my power to get these men and women the resources they need to lead the fight.”

During an all-call, Harrigian discussed how crucial RAF Mildenhall is to our allies all over the region and he introduced his three priorities as the new USAFE-AFAFRICA commander – readiness, posture and partnerships.

“The world is ever-evolving right now, and as a premier fighting force, we must all be prepared to meet any new challenges that come our way,” Harrigian said. “The training our men and women receive sends a message to our adversaries that we mean business. Our ability to win the fight is heightened by strengthening our partnerships through various exercises and a shared common goal.”

As a part of his visit, Harrigian visited with 100th Security Forces Squadron defenders, engaged with RAF Mildenhall and RAF Lakenheath squadron commanders and had the opportunity to interact with Team Mildenhall junior NCOs and members of the Chiefs Group and First Sergeants Council.

Wing leadership also provided the general with a tour of all of the major improvements and expansion on the installation and the opportunity to see daily operations – the command post, communications, logistics and maintenance innovation.

Harrigian stressed how important it is that every Airmen have the proper balance in life, but also the responsibility to always be mission ready.
“To have an outstanding fighting force, we must have people who are fit in all aspects of life – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual,” Harrigian remarked. “However, when you are in your work center, on the flightline or downrange, remember how important our mission is and how vital you all are to the success of the United States Air Force.”
