Tree lighting ceremony slated for Dec. 2

Team Mildenhall will hold its annual tree-lighting ceremony Dec. 2 begining at 4:45 p.m. adjacent to the Bob Hope Community Center.

Col. Chad Manske, 100th Air Refueling Wing commander, will host the event.

Children will sing carols begining at 4:55 p.m. following the incovation. The lights on the tree will be turned on at 5 p.m., followed by a visit from Santa and his elves -- who will ride in with the base Fire Department -- to hand out candy prior to departing for the North Pole.

Refreshments and hot chocolate will be served at the Bob Hope Community Center until 5:30 p.m.

In other holiday news:

Squadrons are invited to participate in the American Red Cross 2009 Holiday Greeting Card Contest.

- Each squadron will provide its own supplies

- Cards will be placed in the grassy area next to the Christmas Tree, adjacent to the Bob Hope Community Center

- Entries can be no bigger than two 4 foot by 8 foot boards, and can be three-dimensional with optional electrical lights (British 240-volt only). If you supply a step-down transformer, CE will supply the 240v for the transformer. All cards will be illuminated by CE with spotlights.

- Entries can be put up from the Dec 1 through 11. The judging will take place on Dec. 17. In order to be eligible for entry into the contest, entries must be in- place no later than Dec. 11.

- Cards need to be taken down no later than Jan.6.

- Each squadron will be responsible for stabilization needs; make sure your greeting card is secure at all times. Should the card topple over due to strong winds, etc., it is the squadron's responsibility to ensure the card is restored to its proper position, as soon as possible.

- Contact Master Sgt. Kevin Tarr, 100th Civil Engineer Squadron, at DSN 238-5690 prior to installing your card in order to ensure proper placement and necessary electrical support.

- Presentation to the squadrons with the winning 1st, 2nd and 3rd place entries will take place at the Wing Staff Meeting
