The U.S. Air Forces in Europe Inspector General team awarded the 100th Air Refueling Wing with a "satisfactory" rating for its performance during the Operational Readiness Inspection here Oct. 5 to 16.

"I'm really proud of Team [RAF] Mildenhall," said Col. Chad Manske, 100th ARW commander. " We have the ability to go to war and we have proven that to the inspection team."

"The nature of this type of inspection is to test you on things you don't normally do," said Col. Robert Suminsby, USAFE Inspector General, to a crowd of 100th ARW Airmen at the out-brief in the Northside Fitness Center Oct. 16. "This is tough and there will always be new challenges. We have learned that no war is ever the same."

The wing was evaluated on four primary areas broken into 28 sub-categories. The five-tier grading system rates each sub-category as unsatisfactory, marginal, satisfactory, excellent or outstanding. Three marginals, 12 satisfactories and 11 excellents were identified. The two sub-categories who received outstandings marks were Information Operations and Financial Management and Comptroller Support.

The inspection team also identified the performance of three teams and 25 individuals as outstanding performers. These Airmen showed that they were more than ready to handle their missions in a deployed setting.

"From everything I've heard from the [IG] team, everyone expressed a great sense of urgency," said Colonel Manske. " Customs and courtesies were exceptional and I saw enthusiasm, pride and professionalism in everyone's job performance."

The ORI certifies the 100th ARW for 60 months, although a new inspection could be expected as early as 48 months from now, said Capt. David Marce, USAFE IG maintenance division chief.

"We would rather get the inspections done a little early than break a suspense," said the captain. "We are always holding another inspection so our job is not done."
